Our mission

Rescue. Rehabilitate. Rehome.

Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome small companion dogs throughout New Mexico.

We work toward loving, permanent placements through careful screening, foster insight, veterinary care, and thoughtful matches that serve both the dog and the adopting family.

Our story

Rooted in New Mexico. Growing through compassion.

Mid-1990s

A rescue takes shape

LDRNM was founded in response to the needs of New Mexico's small companion dogs.

August 2001

Official nonprofit status

LDRNM received federal 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and continued building a statewide network of foster homes and volunteers.

Today

Thousands of new beginnings

Led by a volunteer board and supported by a dedicated volunteer community, LDRNM continues to respond wherever small dogs need a safe path forward.

We are not a physical shelter. Dogs come into family-style foster homes from crowded shelters, owner-surrender situations, hoarding cases, and other unsafe circumstances. There, they are treated as part of the family while they regain health, confidence, and trust.

Fosters coordinate veterinary care, learn each dog's personality, and help identify the home where that dog can thrive. It is personal, patient work—and it is made possible entirely through volunteerism and community generosity.

How we work

Care at every step.

Every dog's needs are different. Our approach keeps the dog at the center of every decision.

01

Family-style fostering

Dogs live in foster homes, not kennels, where they can decompress, socialize, and learn the rhythms of family life.

02

Complete medical care

Fosters arrange examinations and approved treatment so each dog can become healthy, comfortable, and ready for adoption.

03

Thoughtful matching

We review applications and conduct home visits to seek a stable, loving fit for both the family and the dog.
